Blink 182’s Travis Barker is still grieving the loss of his friend DJ AM, recently Barker posted a picture via Twitter of the tattoo that had just been completed in honor of the late DJ AM.
Last August, DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) died from an accidental drug overdose shortly before the premiere of his new MTV reality show: Gone Too Far. On the show, DJ AM reached out to young adults who were addicted to drugs and helped them turn their lives around.
His death came as a shock to many who soon learned that DJ AM had suffered a relapse after being clean for over a decade.
Travis Barker and DJ AM survived a 2008 plane crash in South Carolina that killed four people. DJ AM is believed to have suffered from “Survivor’s Guilt”.
“Survivor’s guilt” is a mental condition that occurs when a person perceives himself or herself to have done wrong by surviving a traumatic event.
Travis Barker’s thigh tattoo honoring his longtime friend, says ” In Memory of”, over DJ AM’s name and signature lightning bolt with a weeping angel.
CONGRATULATIONS, MO’NIQUE!
*insert thunderous applause here*
Our first reality television headmistress, Mo’Nique won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress last night at The Oscars!! Mo’Nique was the very first host of VH1’s Charm School, with the Flavor of Love girls and no one could have done it better. The girls of VH1’s’ Charm School were entertaining to watch but most of them were a mess!!! Those girls needed someone who was tough…and had some backbone. LOL!
Mo’Nique gave the girls REAL TALK when they needed it. When Mo’Nique crowned Saaphyri the winner, it was an incredibly emotional moment, that hasn’t been matched in any of the Charm School seasons since. Saaphyri fell to the ground… started thanking God, and as viewers, we knew Mo’Nique really understood what Saaphyri was going through.
My first introduction to Mo’nique’s work was a successful black female stand-up comedienne. Mo’Nique later showed off her comedic acting skills on “The Parkers“. If you are a New Yorker, like myself, you also know her as one of the funniest and most memorable hosts of the legendary “It’s Showtime at the Apollo“. Mo’Nique has hosted the BET Awards for us THREE TIMES. Who could forget Mo’Nique performing ‘Crazy In Love’, and performing it WELL without one booty-pump out of place!!
Mo’Nique encouraged thick chicks everywhere to love who they are and warned us about skinny B****s AND skinny cooks!! She has written books, appeared in several movies, and even produced a documentary, ‘I Coulda Been Your Cellmate‘. ‘I Coulda Been Your Cellmate‘ documents the lives of women who are living within the penal system. Prison…not the penal system you’re thinking about. LOL!
I am thrilled that Mo’Nique won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her role as “Mary Jones” in Precious!! It’s great to see someone who has worked so hard to achieve a certain goal finally receive recognition for a job well done. Especially if you’re someone who has been told “You’ll never be able to do that” or “You’ll never make it” or ”That’s not possible”.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve received the *Blink Blink* stare when I tell people I am a writer and plan to become a Director someday.
Last night, Mo’Nique became the 5th African-American female to win an acting Oscar and I am feeling inspired!
I love to hear Mo’Nique tell the story about how her brother dared her to perform at an open mic night at the Baltimore Comedy Factory Outlet…and as they say….the rest is history!

Awww….16-year-old Haeley Vaughn of Fort Collins, Colorado…the black country music singer, was 1 of 4 eliminated from American Idol this week. Although I think Simon’s critique was a bit harsh, I agree Haeley is not yet ready to be the American Idol.
Haeley has an unbelievable voice and would certainly bring something unique to the world of country music, I hope the right people get in contact with her and mold her into the country star she dreams to be!
